Komodo Kool

Thinking of heading down to Brickell for dinner?  Check out Komodo, the swanky new contemporary Southeast Asian restaurant that melds nightclub vibe with upscale cuisine. Jeffrey Chodorow (of China Grill) and club entrepreneur David Grutman (LIV) joined forces to create this tri-level hot spot that serves up great signature cocktails at all three bars. The Cucumber Basil Martini was a winner. Although the food was good, for me, this venue is all about the electric lounge atmosphere with club music, indoor-outdoor spaces and floating bird's nest pods. Let's Talk Food The menu offers an interesting array of... Continue Reading >

The Condo Construction Craze

Debra Wellins Been downtown lately?  It's a mass of construction cranes.  Condo towers are going up all over the place from Miami Beach to Hollywood. I've been tracking the 35 condo projects currently under construction in Miami-Dade County.  Three of them are now completed towers*. Most of these are available for pre-sale, meaning you can place a deposit down now, while under construction, and make payments at specified completion phases. The Artification of Condo Sales in South Florida

Debra Wellins Exceptional and valuable art is being paired, not with fine wine, but with luxury condominiums in South Florida.  Paintings, sculptures, public art and video installations, art furniture, rugs and murals are adorning lobbies, pool decks and other common areas of high-end condos to attract wealthy buyers. And the art is not just for the 12th Art Basel Miami Beach, December 5-8.   It's permanent. The Bond on Brickell, a new 44 story condo planned for Miami and themed after London's  legendary Bond Street,  has British photographer Terry O'Neill's life size black and... Continue Reading >

Celebrating the Tata’s

Debra Wellins It was a perfectly gorgeous morning in downtown Miami and the turn-out at the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure 2013 was astounding. The South Miami Dental Team had a blast walking and running with the thousands of breast cancer survivors, families and friends of survivors and those walking in memory of loved ones. To those that participated or contributed in any way, the tata's of the world thank you. [gallery ids="5090,5094,5091"] [gallery ids="5096,5097,5095"]                 Continue Reading >

Dining on the EDGE of Glory

Debra Wellins EDGE STEAK AND BAR, on the seventh floor lobby of the Four Seasons Hotel on Brickell, was a great way to close out the 2013 Miami Spice season. The dining room and bar is modern and casually sophisticated. On the terrace, seating includes romantic lounge areas with firepits. Inside or out, the Edge has great atmosphere. Setting the tone for the evening and pleasing me to no end was their complimentary salty, seasoned home made potato chips.  I wanted a basket all to... Continue Reading >

Zuma Contemporary Japanese Cuisine – Still Great 3 Years Later

Debra Wellins I loved Zuma three three years ago when it first opened and it continues to impress with quality ingredients, simple presentations and delicious food served Izakaya style.  In case you are unfamiliar, Izakaya refers to an informal dining style where dishes are intended to be shared.  Food is continuously and steadily brought to the table with no particular regard to protocol or order. We sat on the terrace overlooking the Miami River on a beautiful balmy Miami evening.  The terrace, usually... Continue Reading >
