Lofty Plan to Bring Back the Coconut Grove Theater

Debra Wellins I attended a meeting last night at City Hall in Coconut Grove that pitched an alternative $45 million proposal to rebuild the Coconut Grove Playhouse. This version of a theater center would be operated by the Adrienne Arsht Trust under the current agreement with the county.  If not governed by the Arsht Trust, a 501c3 trust board could be formed with arrangements similar to the public-private partnership of the Adrienne Arsht Center. The group of civic leaders supporting this version is spearheaded by Mike Eidson, Chairman... Continue Reading >

With that said, the Florida Bar has assembled a special committee to explore real estate and probate laws as they pertain to same sex couples. The Bar's Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section created the panel in June to study  property and estate issues pertaining to same-sex couples legally married in other states, who move to Florida.  There are statutory changes that need to be addressed if challenges to Florida's prohibition of gay... Pinecrest Townhouse Sales

A Shocker – Citizens Insurance Approves Rate Reduction

Debra Wellins Citizens Property Insurance Corp. Board of Governors approved an overall average reduction of 2.9 percent statewide for personal residential policyholders. Single family homeowners will see an average drop of 3.2 percent and personal and commercial rates will decrease by 1 percent. These recommendations, however, still must be approved by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation before they take effect. But why wouldn't they approve it?  After all, Florida has not had a major storm in eight years, bolstering insurance profits as well as reducing reinsurance cost (insurance... Continue Reading >
