South Miami

The City of South Miami  is a charming 2.3 square mile community of residential homes, rental apartments, condominiums and businesses.  It is nestled between the City of Coral Gables and The Village of Pinecrest and has just under 12,000 residents. The average value of homes in 2022 $1,564,614.

South Miami has three public elementary schools, Ludlam, South Miami and Sunset Elementary (an international studies magnate), as well as South Miami Middle School , South Miami Senior High School and an alternative school, J.R.E. Lee Opportunity Center.  There are also nine private schools including The Learning Experience, an exceptional school for children with developmental disabilities.

There are ten parks, among them Dante Fascell Park that has six clay tennis courts and two handball courts and Palmer Park with one lighted football/soccer field and five lighted baseball/softball fields.

The quaint “town center” area east of US1 is a vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment venue with a hometown ambiance. Two major hospitals within the city, South Miami and Larkin, provide employment and services to people throughout the county and beyond.

South Miami ‘s Historic Preservation Board has formally designated  30 single family homes and six significant commercial buildings as historic, bringing special recognition and increased  property values to these landmarks.
