The Village of Pinecrest is purchasing a lush five-acre property to use as a passive park located at 11855 SW 60 Ave.
The site, known as the Mas property, is horticulturally significant in that it was originally owned by the Montgomery family, founders of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. In addition to exotic species of trees and plants, it has trails, a lagoon and a large resort-like house.
In exchange for selling the property for $10M, which is $2.5M below appraised value, the Village will name the green space after Aleyda Mas, the wife of George Mas, owner of MasTec.
Pinecrest has an imperative that there must be a green space within one mile or a 10 – 15 minute walk of every resident. Adding this park to the Pinecrest inventory is a great move. With all the new construction going on in the Village, it’s vital to preserve green space.
The closing is slated for Jan. 24, 2024.
